Guidelines QLIP Newcomer Workers Working Group

Name: Quinte Local Immigration Partnership Newcomer Workers Working Group (QLIP NW Working Group) 

Meeting frequency: Once a month unless otherwise needed 

Meeting duration: 1 to 2 hours, as needed 

Current Chairperson: – As of April 2024 TBD 

Admin Support: Cat Fisher Andrews, QLIP Coordinator, Quinte Immigration Services (lip@quinteimmigration.ca)

Structure: Semi-formal Working Group under the QLIP umbrella 

New members: For QLIP members who would like to join this group (or relevant community agency members) they can contact the QLIP Coordinator. Current group members also can suggest additions. 60% of membership should agree to including a new member

. 

Rotating Chairperson: The Chairperson can step down at any time. A new one will be chosen based on 60% of present Group members approving. Alternatively, the position can rotate regularly. 

Purpose: 

Work collaboratively to support and promote the diverse needs of vulnerable newcomer workers with an emphasis on temporary foreign workers (TFWs) in the QLIP area. Create community awareness of issues facing newcomer workers/TFWS and source solutions for them. 

Responsibilities: 

▪ Provide information, education and support to vulnerable newcomer workers/TFWs in the region 

▪ Provide information, education and support to relevant services and community members about newcomer workers/TFWs in the community 

▪ Provide information, education and support to employers of newcomer workers/TFWs in the region 

▪ Obtain baseline data about newcomer workers/TFWs in the community, including where they work, live, etc. and places where they go for information and/or support.

2) Acknowledge and be respectful about other Working Group members’ input and activities 

3) Respect others’ time by providing concise information and sharing documents electronically 

4) Communicate openly and honestly 

5) Address perceived misinformation or disagreement professionally and tactfully 

6) Refrain from using discriminatory actions or words towards/about a Group member or TFWs 

7) Give constructive feedback 

8) Celebrate each other's accomplishments
